- The College of LAS has announced 40 faculty promotions to take effect this fall. Several of those faculty members are from the School of Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics.
- 2024-08-13 - The Office of the Provost has announced the 2024-25 cohort for the Public Voices Fellowship with the University of Illinois System. Two faculty members from SLCL are among this year's group.
- 2024-08-01 - The College of LAS has honored three SLCL professors with named scholar and professorship positions in recognition of their contributions to research and education at the University of Illinois.
- 2024-07-26 - Associate professor of classics Ariana Traill has been organizing summer camps introducing children to Greek and Roman history since 2015. She was inspired to start the camps after talking to Silvina Montrul, professor of Spanish, who founded the University Language Academy for Children, an after school and summer camp Spanish program.
- 2024-07-18 - An exhibit showcasing butterfly nectar plants will be hosted at Urbana Park District’s Anita Purves Nature Center from July 20 to the end of August. The exhibit features 17 pictures by professor James H. Yang, a visiting scholar from Taiwan who obtained his Ph.D. in linguistics from Illinois.

- 2024-06-28 - Justin Wytmar, who recently completed his junior year at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is among 20 students nationally who were awarded the Beinecke Scholarship.

- 2024-06-11 - The College of LAS has honored 17 professors with named scholar and professorship positions in recognition of their contributions to research and education at the University of Illinois, including three from the School of Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics.
- 2024-06-07 - Programs like English as a Second Language in the Department of Linguistics help students succeed within a new language and culture.
- 2024-06-03 - We CU and the Humanities Research Institute (HRI) recently announced the 2024–2025 Humanities in Action scholars. The new cohort—composed of five students from across campus, including two from SLCL—will begin the program in fall 2024.
- 2024-05-29 - Twenty years ago, Ann Abbott, professor and director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, created SPAN 232 as the university’s first and only general education course that is not taught in English. Since then, the course has grown from having about 12 students a semester to about 60 students a semester.
- 2024-05-20 - Waïl Hassan learns new languages to write a book that examines Brazilian literature.
- 2024-05-16 - The School of Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics celebrated the Class of 2024 with a convocation ceremony this spring.
