Dr. Honaida Ahyad, Lecturer in Linguistics and Translation Studies, is one of only four recipients of an IPRH (Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities) Summer Faculty Research Fellowship for 2020.

Dr. Ahyad said she will be working on a project with three components: translating a Makkan Arabic Chick Lit novel titled “half cooked”; a research paper titled “Translating Makkan literature: Is it possible at all”; and an interview with the Makkan Saudi novelist.

Her research areas include experimental phonology, morphology, dialectology, second language acquisition, learnability, and dialects of Arabic.

IPRH’s Summer Faculty Research Fellowships are designed to help faculty at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign maximize the summer for research in service of their ongoing professional development. They provide an infusion of resources designed to jumpstart or fuel an ongoing research project over the summer months.
