Randall Sadler, Associate Professor of Linguistics, is co-editor of a forthcoming book on using games to teach English as a Second Language. Sadler’s co-editor and numerous contributors are graduates of Illinois’ MATESL program.
Titled New Ways in Teaching With Games, the book is published by TESOL Press and will be available online and at TESOL’s International Convention & English Language Expo, to be held in Denver from March 31 to April 3.
The book has a decidedly Illinois MATESL angle, as Sadler’s co-editor is Ulugbek Nurmukhamedov, a MATESL graduate who is now an Assistant Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Northeastern Illinois University.
Several other MATESL graduates contributed chapters, including Crystal Bonano, Amber Dunse, John Kotnarowski, Rick Partin, Cassandra Rosado, and Rebecca Shaw-Sullivan. Rosado, Kotnarowski, and Dunse are currently lecturers in the Department of Linguistics, while Partin is the Coordinator of Outreach and External Relations for SLCL.
This new volume is part of TESOL’s best-selling “New Ways” series, which offers activities that involve play and games that can enrich classrooms in both English as a Foreign Language and English as a Second Language. The activities can be used with adult and young English learners worldwide. Video instructions are included for each activity.
