Eider Etxebarria-Zuluaga, a graduate student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, has been awarded the prestigious NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Award (DDRI) for her Dissertation Research: “Subject Expression in Spanish in Contact with Basque and in Spanish-Basque Bilingualism.” The grant will cover her research expenses.

Etxebarria-Zuluaga is working under the direction of Professor Silvina Montrul, who also is part of the grant submission.

The DDRI Award is one of the most competitive external grants that a graduate student can receive at the doctoral level, as it goes through six external reviews. The program encourages projects that are interdisciplinary in methodological or theoretical perspective, and that address questions that cross disciplinary boundaries.
